CHI is committed to the concept of care called "hospice."
Hospice care for children is a team effort that provides medical, psychological, social and spiritual care.
We recognize the right and need for children and their families to choose health care and support whether in their own home, hospital, or hospice care facility.
CHI works closely with health care professionals providing technical assistance, educational materials, and other resources. We also help the families and friends of a child with a life-threatening condition by providing literature specific to families, connecting them to local resources, and offering support.
CHI has developed and directed educational programs, seminars and workshops; it has provided for technical assistance to health care providers and others around the world. CHI's publications are devoted to all aspects of care for children with life-threatening conditions
The CHI's Program for All-Inclusive Care for Children® and their Families (CHI PACC®) built on over 20 years experience and technical assistance from experts in pediatric, hospice, and palliative care, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The United States Congress appropriated funds for FY 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 to enable CHI, through the Department of Health and Human Services, to conduct state demonstration model programs of CHI PACC®. In FY 2003, money was also provided to develop this program for families in the U.S. Military.
CHI PACC®Demonstration Model Programs are charged with developing and coordinating a comprehensive system of care for children with life-threatening conditions and their families from the time of diagnosis, with hope for a cure, through bereavement follow-up if cure is not attained.
