As difficult as it is for us to lose Mattie, it is absolutely devastating to see our dear friend, Jeni - Mattie's mom - bury her fourth and last child. Mattie and Jeni together, as one, have shown us great courage, strength and a perseverance and determination that will live on for many generations to come. Mattie and Jeni have been and will continue to be an inspiration for all we do here at Children's Hospice International.
CHI and CHI PACC are dedicated to assisting children with life-threatening conditions and their families, from time of diagnosis, with hope for cure, through bereavement if cure is not attained. That is the continuum of care so needed by this patient population, as Mattie so often advocated. It is with great honor and gratitude that we dedicate CHI PACC as a living memorial to Mattie J.T. Stepanek

A hero...
Someone who never gives up
Even when the going gets rough.
A champion is a member of
A winning team...
Someone who overcomes challenges
Even when it requires creative solutions.
A champion is an optimist,
A hopeful spirit...
Someone who plays the game,
Even when the game is called life
Especially when the game is called life...
There can be a champion in each of us,
If we live as a winner,
If we live as a member of the team,
If we live with a hopeful spirit,
For life.
