Children's Hospice International (CHI) expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated employees of United Airlines and Commerce Bank for their support of an important Christmas tradition – Fantasy Flight – bringing a magical Christmas to hundreds of children with life-threatening conditions and their families in the Washington, DC area. "Fantasy Flight", a trip to the North Pole, included a trip on a real aircraft that took children to another terminal, where children emerged to find the North Pole with Santa and his elves. This year's 16th Annual Fantasy Flight took place on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Dulles Airport (Virginia) The event consisted of many smiling faces on children from Believe in Tomorrow (Baltimore, MD), Children’s Medical Center (formerly Fairfax Oncology, Fairfax, VA), Georgetown University Hospital (Washington, DC), Hospital for Sick Children (Washington, DC), NIH Children's Inn (Bethesda, MD), Project Champ-Children's National Medical Center (Washington, DC), and Special Love (Winchester, VA).
As a DJ played children songs and Christmas carols, the children found various means of entertainment as they waited for Santa to arrive. Sponge Bob and Tweety Bird were found mixed amongst the children and their families. And, as parents snacked on treats, many children were found chasing after a talking fire truck, brought over by the volunteer fire department. And, at last, Santa came!
Set in his thrown with Mrs. Claus and his elves, Santa welcomed the children with open arms. The children all gathered to sit in Santa's lap. They received a picture with Santa and a gift bag full of wonderful surprises, generously donated by Mattel and United employees.
As everyone parted ways, children smiled with delight at another successful Fantasy Flight!
United sponsored Fantasy Flights in Chicago, IL and Phoenix, AZ as well.
